Gang), j Heat-pipe photovoltaic/thermal (HP-PV/T) systems can simultaneously provide electrical and thermal energy. Compared with traditional water-type photovoltaic/thermal systems, HP-PV/T systems can be used in cold regions without being frozen with the aid of a carefully selected heat-pipe working fluid. The current research presents a detailed simulation model of the HP-PV/T system. Using this model, the annual electrical and thermal behavior of the HP-PV/T system used in three typical climate areas of China, namely, Hong Kong, Lhasa, and Beijing, are predicted and analyzed. Two HP-PV/T systems, with and without auxiliary heating equipment, are studied annually under four different kinds of hot-water load per unit collecting area (64.5, 77.4, 90.3, and 103.2 kg/m). 2011 Elsevier Ltd. A systematic approach for a better thermal management of photovoltaic systems- A review

Solar energy is the highly recognized energy source, capable of fulfilling the world’s future energy demands. The solar photovoltaic technology involves the unmediated transformation of sunlight into electricity. A little fraction is converted into electricity and the remaining gets exhausted as unused heat. This results in an increase in the operating temperature of the PV Panel. The conversio...

Comparative performance assessment of flat plate and evacuated tube collectors for domestic water heating systems in Kerman, Iran

This study represents a year-round energy performance of two solar water heating (SWH) systems with a 4m2 flat plate collector (FPC) and an evacuated tube collector (ETC) operating under the same weather conditions. The energy performance of the two considered systems was compared on a monthly and yearly basis. The obtained results showed that for an annual total solar insolation of ...

Material Optimization for Concentrated Solar Photovoltaic and Thermal Co-generation

We conducted an analytic study of concentrated solar photovoltaic and hot water co-generation based on various solar cell technologies and micro channel heat sinks. By co-optimizing the electricity generation and heat transport in the system, one can minimize the cost of the key materials and compare different tradeoffs as a function of concentration ratio or other parameters. Concentrated sola...

A Pv/t and Heat Pump Based Trigeneration System Model for Residential Applications

A solar trigeneration system, based on photovoltaic-thermal (PV/T) collectors, photovoltaic (PV) modules and a heat pump unit for heating and cooling, is modelled to forecast the thermal and electric yields of the system. The aim of the trigeneration system is to provide enough electricity, domestic hot water (DHW), heating and cooling power to meet the typical demand of an urban single family ...

Optimization of the PCM-integrated solar domestic hot water system under different thermal stratification conditions

Many researchers have investigated how to increase the overall efficiency of solar-driven thermal systems. Several key parameters, such as collector efficiency and storage tank characteristics, may impose some constraints on the annual solar fraction (ASF) of such systems. In this paper, the behaviour of integrating the phase change material (PCM) in SDHW systems is modelled and optimized n...
